Ivan & Katie~May 10, 2015

Katie and Ivan were joined in marriage on May 10, 2015 in Estes Park, Colorado in a lovely outdoor ceremony with family and friends there to witness the special occasion.

These high school sweethearts are from Houston and waited many years for the day that they could call each other husband and wife. What turned out to be a perfect day was preceded by a really nasty snow storm. Katie and Ivan traveled to Colorado early because Katie graduated from UNC the day before their wedding. As the traveled, the clouds moved in. The storm on May 9th, Katie's graduation day, was a typical spring storm with a little sun, a little hail, a little rain, and a whole lotta snow! I know how it feels as a Southerner to be faced with one of these spring storms, but it all worked out beautifully. Yes it was chilly, but the clouds hung beautifully in the sky and left just a trace of fresh snow on the ground for their wedding day.

Katie was calm, and sweet as she could be as I met her while she finished her hair and makeup. Her pure white gown fit her perfectly. Her mom was even gracious enough to paint her toenails as she got ready. It was a really sweet moment. Ivan is a man of few words, but that smile told how he felt just fine. He was one of the calmer grooms I can remember in a long time. He seemed, just, ready.

These two were playful with each other and found every opportunity to be silly with each other. I loved snapping pictures as they truly found the joy in their hearts and celebrated with each other this happy day. Tradition and family resonated throughout the day and while those that were there to witness this special day did not amount to many in number, they more than filled the venue with approval, love, happiness, and excitement.

So, to Katie and Ivan I say this: always be playful with each other. It is a quality that many couples let go all too quickly as they settle into their married lives. It is immensely important to always find happiness, silliness, and playfulness with your partner. May you have many years together in wedded bliss because of this. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Aguilar!
